Me, myself and I

The biggest mistake that I’ve ever made, and an ongoing one that I continue to re-live, is failing to practice balance. In everything. Because… it’s alright to take pride in the fact that you’re intelligent and knowledgeable, but that pride should never quench your thirst to know more. And it’s alright to be impressed with yourself, all that you’ve done and all that you are doing, but being impressed with yourself shouldn’t blind you to dreaming of bigger, better things. And it’s fine that you believe this and that, but assurance in those beliefs should never stunt your development, especially when growth requires listening to views that might oppose every notion you hold dear. And remembering the line between trust and foolishness is often a struggle. Confidence and conceit. Concerning yourself with how you come across to others versus allowing the opinions of spectators to consume you. And then there’s appreciating the religious or non-religious views of peers, but not allowing their outlook to influence you in an unfavorable manner. And there’s looking forward to what’s to come, but never forgetting where you came from and who made you. It’s ongoing and therefore exhaustive. Constant and so easy to slip if your mind isn’t right at all times. So I guess there’s also balance in wanting to be perfect but knowing at times you’ll fall short. Challenging yourself versus being overly-critical. Striving to become who you want to be, learning from who you once were, and appreciating who you now are
